Losing your teeth can be an emotionally draining experience.
At first, you may not believe that it has happened. Then you may be angry at yourself for letting it happen. When you look back, it’s easy to see what you should have done differently to save your teeth before it got to this point.
Then, you may start to feel ashamed or embarrassed. You don’t want other people to see you like this. Of course, you want to spend time with your family and friends. You just don’t know if you want to do that in public or face-to-face.
The next stage is often acceptance, but we don’t want you to do that. At Dental Implants and Periodontology Of Arizona, we want our patients to walk out of our dentist office in Phoenix with big smiles they are proud to share with anyone.
We want you to talk to our dentist about our Same-Day Smile procedure.
You Have Our Support
It may feel isolating when you realize you are edentulous in one or both rows of your teeth, but you are not alone.
National health organizations estimate that 35 or 36 million people are missing at least one row of teeth. One in 4 who are 65 and older are estimated to be missing all their natural teeth.
If we were like sharks or alligators, this would not be a problem. When any of our teeth fell out, we would just grow a new one in its place.
Alas, this is one area where those two creatures have us beat.
Or do they?
We have not figured out how to regrow lost teeth, but we do have a way to /replace/ lost teeth with dental implants.
Modern dental implants have taken teeth replacement to another level. For practical purposes, these are as close to a third set of teeth as humans can get.
Implant-supported dentures offer a lot more power and a lot more stability than traditional dentures.
Dentures Vs. Implant-Supported Dentures
A person with traditional dentures make look like he or she has teeth (which is good), but that person also loses about 85 percent of his or her bite force compared to when he or she still had teeth.
This explains why chewing a bite of steak or chicken can be so difficult with dentures. It also explains why other foods can cause your teeth to come out. (Let’s just say we wouldn’t recommend bobbing for apples if you have traditional dentures.)
In fact, traditional dentures can be so loose that they may fall out when you are telling a story, laughing at a good joke, or singing.
With implant-supported dentures, you can regain most of your original bite force. As you heal, your jawbone will bond to your implants. This will hold the implants firmly in place.
And that makes your implants a solid foundation for your dentures.
As you get stronger, your bite force can approach that of someone with a healthy set of teeth. (You can bob for apples at that point.)
With that in mind, you can tell jokes, laugh heartily, and sing to your heart’s content … without worrying that your “teeth” with come out.
Same-Day Smile
The one drawback to many implant procedures is that you can’t get your replacement teeth the same day that you get your implants. In most cases, you have to wait until you are fully healed (which can take months) before your dentures are attached.
You’ve probably guessed that Same-Day Smile is different in this regard (and you are right.
With Same-Day Smile, we place a set number of implants in strategic locations in your jaw. This allows you to receive load-bearing implants almost immediately.
You may not have your full bite force right away, but you will have some. And you will gain more strength as you jaw heals.
You will have the options of removable and non-removable replacement teeth with this procedure.
The removable dentures are held in place by ball attachments. This keeps them in place when you needs them, but allow you to remove them for cleaning.
If you prefer permanent security, then you can get screw-in teeth replacements instead.
We will be glad to discuss the pros and cons of each if you schedule a consultation at our dentist office in Phoenix.
